How To Cook…

Aduki Beans:

Soak overnight, changing the water in the morning, and boil/simmer for 30 minutes.

Black-eyed Beans:

Soak overnight, changing the water in the morning, and boil/simmer for 30 – 45 minutes.

Bulgar Wheat:

In a bowl add one part Bulgar Wheat to two parts Boiling water, allow to stand (not more than 30 mins), pour off any exces water.

Butter Beans:

Soak overnight, changing the water in the morning, and boil/simmer for 1 hour 15 mins.

Chick Peas:

Soak overnight, changing the water in the morning, and boil/simmer for 1 – 1 hour 30 minutes.

Cous Cous and Wholewheat Cous Cous:

In a bowl take one part Cous Cous and add two parts boiling water, leave to stand for 10 minutes, then fluff with a fork.

Haricot Beans:

Soak overnight, changing the water in the morning, and boil/simmer for 1 hour 30 minutes.

Marrowfat Peas:

Soak overnight, changing the water in the morning, and boil/simmer for 45 minutes to 1 hour.

Millet:

Dry roast the grains in a dry pan for a few minutes, add three times the volume of water and bring to the boil, then simmer for 15 – 20 mins, stiring as necessary.

Mung Beans:

Soak overnight, changing the water in the morning, and boil/simmer for 30-40 minutes.

Pearl Barley:

Simmer for 20 – 30 minutes.

Pinto Beans:

Soak overnight, changing the water in the morning, and boil/simmer for 45 minutes – 1 hour.

Popcorn:

Heat oil in the bottom of a saucepan.  Cover with a layer of popcorn and KEEP THE LID ON until the popping stops, shaking occasionally throughout cooking.  Once the corn is cooked tip it out of the pan into a bowl.  Add sugar/honey/maple syrup/salt to the pan, add the popcorn back in and shake well.  Serve warm.

Red Kidney Beans:

Soak overnight, changing the water in the morning, and boil for at least 10 minutes/simmer for 1 hour.

Red Split Lentils:

Boil/simmer for 20-30 minutes.

Roasted Buckwheat:

Boil for 20 mins, use one part Buckwheat to two parts water.

Seven Bean Mix:

Soak overnight, changing the water in the morning, and boil for at least 10 minutes then simmer for 30 – 45 minutes.

Soup Mix:

Cook for 30 – 45 mins by adding to soups and stews.

Soya Beans:

Soak overnight, changing the water in the morning, and boil/simmer for 3 – 4hours.

Split Peas:

Soaked overnight, cook for 30minutes, unsoaked cook for 40 mins.
